Restaurant Review – Riverside Wine Bar, Chepstow

We are big fans of eating out and finding new places to try out.  So, we were looking for a new place to eat in Chepstow when we came across the Riverside Wine Bar. We enjoy Tapas and Dad Bo had never tried it so we thought at 83 years old it was about time he did!

The Welcome at the Riverside Wine Bar

As soon as we walked in to the bar area we were greeted with a friendly welcome, we were given some menus to take outside to decide if we wanted to stay and order. There was no hard sell and we were given time to decide.

Window table in the restaurant

Our first impressions of the restaurant were that it was fresh and clean, with tables well spaced, there were also some settees where you can lounge and have snacks if you preferred. We were shown to a table by the window looking out towards the river, which was a perfect spot. The restaurant felt really light and very spacious.

The Toilets were very clean with everything stocked well. Situated just off to the left of the the restaurant on the same floor so no steps to climb, useful to know should you be visiting with someone who has mobility problems.

The service was excellent from the time we arrived, to the moment we left. All the drinks and meals came together and the smiling staff seemed very happy to be there.

The Food at the Riverside Wine Bar

As it was Dad’s first Tapas experience we decided to go for 2 sharing platters. The first was Chilli Beef Nachos, which was a large portion and plenty to share. The chilli beef was very tasty and spicy, with strong melted cheese, guacamole and sour cream on the side. There was also a salsa type salad in the middle. We all enjoyed it.

The mediterranean platter was superb, consisting of Serrano ham, sliced chorizo, green and black olives, feta and rocket salad, pita and ciabatta breads, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, pickled gherkins, hummus, sweet peppers with goats cheese, onion chutney and pate. We also ordered an extra portion of ciabatta bread with another pot olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

We were very impressed with the food, the presentation was excellent and the flavours superb. Dad really enjoyed his first Tapas experience!

Location of the Riverside Wine Bar

Old Wye Bridge

The location is ideal, in the lower part of Chepstow on the banks of the River Wye. There are tables outside by the river bank, so you can eat inside or out. Unfortunately, the day we visited it was pretty cool so we ate inside. However on a sunny day it would be a lovely spot to sit and sip a cold one.

Cost of our meal at the Riverside Wine Bar

Our meal came to a total of £31.40, and this included four diet pepsi’s. We thought this was excellent value at just under £8 each.

Verdict

We were very impressed by our first visit to the Riverside Wine Bar, the service and the food was excellent and it really was great value for money. We will definitely be back!
