Campsite Review – South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

One of our favourite things to do is to jump in our camper van and explore somewhere new. We had not visited the south coast of England for a long time so decided it was time to explore Dorset. We travelled with 6 friends and stayed at the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park for 4 nights over a bank holiday weekend.

In this post we show you all around the park and facilities, and explain what is in easy reach of this campsite.

Paul and Carole – Road Trip!

Booking the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

We booked over the telephone for a party of eight and the process was very straightforward, we paid a deposit for each unit and the balance was paid 28 days before.

Welcome and checking in at the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

As soon as we pulled up to the waiting area by reception a very friendly guy called Phil came over and booked us in, it was done very efficiently and completed in minutes. Some fun banter followed, the rules of the site were explained and within a couple of minutes we had found our pitch.

Pitches at the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

We were allocated pitch 16 which was a decent size and had hook up and a TV connection available. Water points are also set throughout the site, however we were lucky and had the water attached to our hook up point.

There are strict rules that all doors have to face to the left, which we understand enables every pitch to have their allocated sitting area. However, as we were travelling in a group it would have been nice to have the option of parking with our doors facing each other so you step straight out to the communal area.  The pitches were well maintained with continuous cutting of the lawns whilst we were there.

Sitting outside after 11pm is frowned upon unless you are very quiet, but there is nothing to stop you going back in your camper for a night cap and a chin wag which we did every night!

Plenty of space between pitches

WiFi at the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

When you book in you are given multiple WiFi code vouchers which last 3 hours, you can have as many as you like. Our pitch was a fair distance from the reception area but we were still able to get a fairly decent signal in the day. However in the evenings it was more difficult, possibly due to the increased traffic, but was not a huge problem.

Facilities at the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

There were two shower blocks on the site. The showers were well maintained, cleaned regularly, with really hot water on a push button system which worked well, hairdryers were also available. Toilets also included disabled facilities. The Alson point was kept clean and very easy to use too.

Shower and washing block

There was a dish washing area under cover which had lots of room and big sinks, drainers were also provided.

Washing up area

This site is very pro recycling, and there were areas throughout the site to segregate waste and these were also maintained regularly.

Recycling area

At reception there is a well stocked shop offering all sorts, food, fresh eggs from the chickens on site, wine, papers etc so if you forget any thing they had it covered.

The site is very dog friendly and even has a dog walking field which is something we had never seen before.

Location of the South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

The location of the campsite is ideal for exploring the Poole and Swanage area. There are two bus stops outside. The bus stop on the opposite side of the campsite is the stop to catch the number 40 to Swanage via Corfe Castle which is a scenic route and takes about an hour. The bus stop on the same side of the campsite goes into Poole and takes about 10 minutes.

Swanage Beach

We had a lovely wander around Swanage, and as we were at the seaside we shared some fish and chips which we got from the Fish Plaice and must say they were superb!

We then caught the number 50 which took us to Sandbanks on our first chain ferry experience! It was getting quite late in the day so unfortunately we couldn’t get off at Sandbanks as we would of missed the last bus back to Poole but it did look lovely, and obviously missed our opportunity of popping in for a cup of tea with Harry Redknapp!

Poole Harbour

Poole Harbour has some lively pubs, the sun decided to come out and we had an excellent afternoon listening to live music. We also had some very good fish and chips here too, no wonder we have cuddly frames!

Fishermen in Poole Harbour

Getting around the area by bus was so easy, and must say we had the best fun with the bus drivers all good humoured and always made sure we got the best deal.

Sunset in Poole

This was a really enjoyable trip with our friends, they are great company and full of fun. There was so much to explore in this area and four days was just not enough!
