Reasons Why You Should

Consider A Cruise Holiday

by Paul and Carole

My love for a cruise holiday began nearly 30 years ago when I had the opportunity to work as a nurse on Celebrity Cruises, however it took me many years to talk Paul into trying this type of holiday. He eventually succumbed and we took our first cruise on the Navigator of the Seas in 2009, since this time we have cruised 14 times and know that we will continue to cruise as long as our budget and health allows.

We still speak to lots of people who feel exactly the same as Paul did and will not consider a cruise holiday. We have put this post together to explain why you should consider going on a cruise holiday, and see if this type of holiday would be for you.

Waking up in a different location every day

Even though you are visiting many destinations you only have to unpack once on a cruise holiday. Waking up in a new country or destination is really exciting and still amazes us. I particularly love watching the sail in which is often early in the morning, however it is sometimes difficult to drag Paul out of bed!

Fine dining with exceptional service

We can’t afford to eat regularly at really expensive restaurants at home so we really enjoy the fine dining that is available on board.

Some people worry that they will have to dine with strangers but this is not the case unless you choose to do so. We prefer to have a table to ourselves, however, on times we have shared and had a fabulous evening. We have met some excellent people who we are still in touch with today.

A cruise holiday gives you the opportunity to try foods that you have never tried before, and if it is not to your taste the waiters will not be offended and get you something else to try.

The service we have received in the dining rooms has been superb and we do enjoy getting to know the dining room staff. It feels quite special to be cared for by such attentive staff who remember your names and what your preferences are. The attention to detail is second to none.

Excellent Live Entertainment

Whether you enjoy classical, singing, dancing, ice skating, acrobatics, magicians, west end types shows or street parties, they can all be found on cruise ships.

We have seen some fantastic acts over the years including Jimmy James, Darren Day, and an excellent Queen tribute act called The Bohemians. There really is a variety of entertainment to suit the majority or people.

Spectacular sunrises and sunsets

There is something quite special about the sunrises and sunsets at sea. Dragging Paul out of bed is sometimes a struggle but he always admits it is worth it in the end!

  1. I like everything about the idea of cruising except having only 6, 8, 10 hours in port per city. That’s the only think that keeps me from going, although I know there are small towns that really only need 6 hours. #FeetDoTravel

    • The short time in port can be a down side sometimes, however it is ideal for getting a taste of different destinations to know whether you would want to go back and spend time there or not.

  2. We chose badly for our oy cruise, but know where we went wrong! The Caribbean as a destination was amazing, but on a British ship when we are British surrounded by 3,000 other Brits was a bit too much. Part of what we love about travelling is getting away from what we know, and socialising with people from other countries. Next time we will choose a smaller vessel, and possibly Royal Caribbean as people on our cruise raved about them. Other than that, you have hit the nail on the head with your pros that’s for sure! #feetdotravel

    • Thanks Angie. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean 7 times now, they are a good choice if you do decide to cruise again. We have done the big ships but our last few cruises have been on smaller ships and we have really enjoyed the smaller ship experience. Thanks for your comment!

  3. Tracy says:

I really am not at all keen on the idea of a cruise at all HOWEVER there are some excellent cruises from Brisbane to Fiji and other wonderful South Sea Island destinations so you never know at some stage i may give one a go! Just have to convince the hubby who gets very sea sick!

  4. Anna says:

For me waking up in a different location every day used to be the best part, but after we had a baby – an entertainment has become an important one as well! We´ve only done the Mediterranean Cruise so far, next time I´d go for a smaller ship experience! #feetdotravel

  5. Sharon says:

You make cruises sound appealing! I get motion sick very easily, though, and would probably be laid up in my room in misery. For those who can do it, I see the advantages. Glad you found a way to travel that you enjoy so much!

  6. I never looked on cruise holidays in that way. Waking up in a different location everyday sounds very appealing and the fact that everything is organized, so you only have to enjoy and relax, as well. 🙂

  7. David says:

You make some great reasons, but I quite like the idea of waking up in a new country. I must try a cruise one of these days!

  8. Shona says:

I concur with all of the above, particularly the waking up in a different location every day. The being able to explore without worrying about baggage, onward journey or anything really. Just be back at the boat before it leaves. 🙂

  9. Samantha says:

You make some great arguments for cruise travel.

  10. Cruising is one of our favorite forms of holiday, though we don’t go as often as we like. The only thing is that we keep saying we want to explore the ships more…but never do. Between port days and attractions on board, there’s always something to do. At the end of the cruise we realize we never spent enough time just exploring and enjoying the ship! For that reason, I think our next cruise will be a transatlantic. If we can’t fit it then…we’re hopeless. 😉

  11. Such a dream! I hope to experience it one day!

  12. I think for me the waking up in a different part of the world is what does it for me and the sunsets. Totally breath taking and a fun experience that everyone should try at least once.

  13. John says:

I went on a cruise a few years back for New Years, had the best time. Specially on New Years, the cruise hadparties in different sections with distintive themes. It’s a really a great idea for travel overall, since you see a lot of places and you get a lof of bang for your buck.
