Our stay at Clearwell Castle – by Paul and Carole
Ever wanted to stay in a castle? Well we did and have now managed to fulfill that dream. We had the opportunity to do this when our niece Samii married Joe at Clearwell Castle. We only stayed for one night but it is a night that we will never forget.
Clearwell Castle has won many awards for best wedding venue, set within the stunning Forest of Dean and provided the perfect fairytale setting for Samii and Joe’s special day.
Our family stayed in three type of rooms in the castle, all very different. Below we have described what each room was like with a short video tour too, so you can see what it really is like to stay in a castle!
The Dunraven Room at Clearwell Castle
Paul and Lucas stayed in the Dunraven Room which was on the top floor of the turret. It was quite a climb but worth it when we got there. The room was not huge however very comfortable with a double bed and wardrobe space. The bathroom was pretty spectacular with carpeted steps up to the bath. Tea and coffee facilities were available and complimentary murray mints too which sadly the boys were very excited about!
The Vereker Suite at Clearwell Castle
My sister and I stayed in the Vereker Suite which was a family room consisting of two four poster beds. The room was huge with views over the gardens. The beds were so comfortable and the detail throughout the room was exquisite. The bathroom was also a decent size with a nice selection of toiletries available.
The Baynham Suite at Clearwell Castle
Our nieces Jodie and Georgia stayed in the Baynham Suite another family room that was larger than the Vereker suite. Again the details in the room were perfect, including a seating area. Another large bathroom, however this room did have a jacuzzi bath which the others did not.
All of the rooms were excellent and the attention to detail could not be faulted. Clearwell Castle is a superb location for a wedding, the organisation was second to none and we had such a fantastic day celebrating the wedding of Samii and Joe.
The setting is spectacular and the rooms and views lived up to our expectations. It really was a special day surrounded by all of our family, including my Dad, Uncle Mick and Aunty Marg who are all in their 80’s and were still on the dance floor at 11pm!
We really enjoyed our first experience of staying in a castle, it really is a unique place to stay and would thoroughly recommend it!
