Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport Review
We had an early morning flight from Gatwick Airport before we embarked on our Caribbean Cruise on the MSC Opera, so decided to stay near the airport the night before. There were two in our party who use wheelchairs so we chose the Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport due to the close proximity and short walkway from the hotel to the airport.
On arrival we checked in with our Booking.com details and when we went to sign, we noticed that they had charged us £135 instead of the £106 agreed. The receptionist was very apologetic and it was quickly sorted, but always good to check!
We left our cases with the concierge and met our friends in the one place we knew they would be, the bar!
Our room at the Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport
Our double room was adequate and fairly compact, not as plush and roomy as we would of expected in a 4 star hotel. However, it had all the facilities you would expect and the bed was really comfortable and marshmallow like, we really did sleep well.
Tea, coffee and a kettle were available near to the Flat-screen TV. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board were available. There were two bottles of complimentary water. We found the safety deposit box in the lowest cupboard literally on the floor so had to get on the floor to use it, which wasn’t the best, however it was really big and could fit a laptop.
There was plenty of storage in the large wardrobe and in the bedside cabinets. A minor detail but the bedside drawers had a sloped finish so easy to scoop out your belongings, simple things! There was a large space where you can put your suitcases too.
The bathroom was a decent size with a shower over the bath, which was fine for us but difficult for our friends and family with mobility issues. Complimentary toiletries were available which is always a plus!

What is there to do in the evening at the Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport
There are multiple options for eating at the hotel. La Brasserie offers a modern European menu, while Vanda Oriental Restaurant provides Southeast Asian cuisine. Urban Cafe has a terrace for guests to relax on, and Kua Bar serves a range of cocktails. However, they are very, very expensive. Drinks in lobby were crazy prices, Grolsh cost £6.95 and a glass of wine was £7.65, we were not happy to pay these prices so walked into the airport. Here we found a pub that we were able to get food and drinks that were cheaper than the hotel.
Our friend who drove us to the airport, had previously stayed at the Sofitel. He told us how expensive it would be and took us to get some snacks and drinks from Tesco, a few minutes drive away. A great tip, saved us some money and is particularly useful if you are travelling with children.
Location of the Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport
Directly linked to the North Terminal and minutes away from the South Terminal by Monorail. We were able to put our cases in with Virgin Atlantic the night before and we just got up the next morning and checked in, it was so easy.
You can see how close the hotel is from this photo that was taken while we were sat on the plane on the runway. You can see the Sofitel right behind the terminal building.
Our verdict of our stay at the Sofitel Hotel London Gatwick Airport
This hotel is really all about the location, which is perfect. Literally 5 mins walk under a covered walkway up one floor and you are in the North Terminal of Gatwick Airport.
Rooms are adequate but we did think quite bland for a 4 star hotel.
Would we stay again? Probably, if the price was right, the rooms were very comfortable and location perfect. However, we noted that there is a Premier Inn right next door, so in future we would compare the prices here too. Both are hotel chains so make sure you book the right hotels with the address north terminal approach.
