Chatrium Riverside Hotel Review Bangkok

We stayed at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel in Bangkok on a bed and breakfast basis for 3 nights. The hotel is situated beside the Chao Phraya River and only 36 km from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport. It took about an hour on a Saturday in transport to reach the hotel from the airport.

Our Grand Room – 2804 at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel

We booked a Grand Room City View which we were really pleased with, it was huge! The balcony wasn’t very wide, the city view was ok, though next door there is a new Four Seasons resort being built, so you were a little distracted by the cranes!

Our King Bed which was actually two single beds pushed together, which was really comfortable and plenty of pillows were provided.

There was a kitchenette with hob and microwave, and some cutlery etc which we didn’t use, and a kettle with complimentary tea and coffee which we did. There is also a mini bar in the room but obviously comes at a cost. Plenty of storage was available in the wardrobe and drawers with complimentary bathrobes and slippers. There was a large room safe big enough for a laptop. We were very excited to find the work desk had a charge port which enabled all types of plugs, including english plugs and 2 usb ports to be used. This was great for charging multiple devices, simple things make us happy!

The exciting charging station!

The bathroom was an excellent size, with a big separate shower and large bath. There are 2 electric points in the bathroom, and complimentary toiletries were also provided.

WiFi at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel

Wifi was a good speed, and could be used for a number of devices. However, it did get a bit frustrating as you kept getting logged out, but this was not a huge problem.

Breakfast at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel

There was a great selection of food, as you would expect at a 5 star hotel. It included all the english favourites and a continental selection, asian foods including curry and rice were also available. The butterscotch buns were superb and the noodle soup also went down well!

We certainly didn’t get bored of the breakfast here and you could sit inside or out by the river. Having this view of the Chao Phaya River was a great start to the day!

The pool on the 6th floor with views over the river was a great spot to just relax. We had lots of fun in here, the pool is a good size and there was a selection of bean bag type beds and normal sunbeds.

It did get busy but we always managed to find beds and enjoyed spending time here cooling off in the Bangkok heat. We had an excellent lunch around the pool too, the food was superb not cheap but worth it.

Location of the Chatrium Riverside Hotel

The location is excellent. There is a 7:11 on the drive leading to the hotel where you can stock up on beers and snacks which are a little cheaper than the hotel! You can enjoy the free boat shuttle from the Chatrium to the nearest BTS Saphan Taksin BTS, literally a couple of minutes walk and you are there. This gives easy access to exploring Bangkok, you can see the route map here.

River Shuttle

When you get off the complimentary boat shuttle do be aware of scammers. We had just got off the shuttle when we were approached by a smart looking lady asking us where we were going. She said that it was a bank holiday and it would be difficult to get around today so she would help. Due to our previous experiences we knew this was a scam. The scam involves the lady arranging for transport for you but you end up at a relatives jewellery shop and things can become difficult. We politely declined her offer and carried on our way.

Within easy walking distance of the Saphan Taksin BTS Station is the Lebua State Tower. As well as a hotel, this iconic building is home to Bangkok’s most famous rooftop bar the Lebua Sky Bar, which is really worth a visit. It isn’t cheap but the most awesome place to watch the sun go down and where the film Hangover II was filmed.

Turn right out of the hotel and you will pass a few thai restaurants and after about 20 minutes walk you will come to Asiatique, this is a great place for a night out on the Chao Phraya river with plenty of shopping, eating and drinking options. There is also a Ferris Wheel to go on and admire the views.

Don’t forget to take a card from reception out with you so you always have the hotel address just in case you get lost, that way you will always be able to get home. For further information for things to do in Bangkok, please do have a read of our Bangkok Post – What to do and not to do!

Verdict of the Chatrium Riverside Hotel

We were very impressed with this hotel, the service, standard of breakfast, and in particular the location was excellent. We were traveling in a group of 7 and we all agreed that if we were visiting Bangkok, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again! Book your stay now!
