Our stay at the Secret Garden Beach Resort, Bangrak, Koh Samui, Thailand

We spent 3 weeks travelling around Koh Samui and our stay at the Secret Garden Beach Resort was one of our favourites. The Secret Garden has always had a good reputation for it’s food and entertainment and on our previous visits to Koh Samui we had enjoyed a fabulous meal. It is situated in Bangrak which is one of our favourite spots on the island. We were interested to learn that it had been developed now into a small resort so we booked a stay.

Airport Transfer to the Secret Garden

Prior to our stay we contacted the resort and received a prompt reply from Sun, the reception manager. We arranged an airport transfer for 380 baht (£7.60). The transport driver was waiting for us and we were taken straight to the resort, which took approximately 20 minutes.

Checking in at the Secret Garden

We were met by Noodi the receptionist who was so lovely and welcoming. It was a friendly and hassle free check in and we were taken straight to our room.

Standard Bungalow at the Secret Garden Beach Resort

We booked a standard bungalow at the Secret Garden beach resort, of which there are 3 in a row. Ours was No 12, nearest the entrance to the resort and opposite reception. The bungalows are made of concrete, being by the road we were initially concerned regarding noise however this was not a problem.

Inside the standard bungalow No 12.

The room was large, very clean with a good size double bed which was very comfortable. There was adequate storage, a 26 inch TV and Tea and coffee making facilities. The room also had a safe and fridge. The ensuite bathroom was large with a good shower and a bamboo dryer for hanging towels and clothes. Shampoo and shower gel dispensers were attached to the wall. There was a small window looking out to the road and a good sized patio with a table, 2 chairs and a towel/clothes dryer at the front.

If you wanted your room cleaned you just hung your little brush outside and it would be done for you.

We were very happy in this room, the only slight negative point would be, for privacy you have to close the curtains which then makes the room very dark. There were net curtains but you could see through them. This was not a huge issue but it would be nicer to have some natural light, without worrying about your privacy.

Pool at the Secret Garden Beach Resort

The pool at the Secret Garden was a lovely place to chill, small and round with enough beds for the 12 bungalows on the resort. We spent a lot of time here.

The grounds and the pool area lead straight onto the beach. Here’s a look around…..

Entertainment at the Secret Garden Beach Resort

The restaurant area is situated towards the beach.

Every night at the Secret Garden there is a theme. Sunday Session consists of a variety of live music acts and the bands and singers we seen were very talented. When we returned from a day out Noodi had already reserved us a table for two in a prime position, which was great.

Monday is Mojito night, Tuesday is Italian night, Wednesday’s there are lunch deals, and Friday there is free finger foods.

Our favourite was BBQ ribs night which happens every Thursday. All you can eat ribs for 299 baht (£6), that went down very well. Our friends said that you will struggle to manage 3, the challenge was set and Paul managed to eat 7!

The Thai food at the restaurant here was also excellent. The service was good too, the staff were happy and very attentive.

Location

To us the location is perfect as it is on Big Buddha beach, on the north shore of the island, which is quiet and away from the crowds. Bangrak is an area that has a selection of good bars and restaurants, 7:11 convenience stores, banks.

It is a short distance from the ferry piers, Bophut and the Fisherman’s Village, situated on the main circular road for easy access to the entire island. Read our guide to the cost of getting around Koh Samui here.
