Amawaterways Dress Code - What to Pack and Wear
We recently cruised the Mekong river with Amawaterways on the beautiful Amadara river cruise ship. Dress codes can sometimes be a bone of contention, so knowing what they are before you began your journey can save you time and take the stress out of what you need to pack. Here is what you need to know for an Amawaterways river cruise.
Dress code
Amawaterways are an increbly casual cruise line and when you are cruising the Mekong it makes perfect sense that they are.
Three meals a day are included in your cruise fare and the dress code for all of these are casual, wet clothes is obviously a big no no, but shorts, sundresses, t-shirts and vest tops are perfectly acceptable for lunch. However, for dinner most people do dress in smart casual attire as described next.
There is a Chef’s Table speciality restaurant on board which is also included in your cruise fare, all you have to do is book it for what ever night suites you best, subject to availability. This was the one area where people definitely made more of an effort to dress up but this still wasn’t a requirement. Smart casual is perfectly acceptable. When we visited I wore a pair of chino’s and a short sleeve shirt and Carole wore a regular dress with a pair of sandals. They were people who chose to wear jackets over their shirts but they were in the minority.
Almost every river and ocean cruise we have been on has a formal/dress to impress/gala night but this is not the case on a Mekong cruise with Amawaterways. Ball gowns and dinner suites can be left at home if you so choose, but if you do want to push the boat out so to speak that is entirely your choice.
Before you Cruise and Essential Packing
Before you cruise arrange an appointment with your doctors to discuss the areas you will be visiting to ensure all the relevant vaccinations you require are in place.
Vietnam and Cambodia have different visa restrictions depending on what country you come from, so make you check with your travel agent, the cruise line or online to see what visa restrictions are in place.
Most if not all river cruises are destination and excursion lead so packing the correct things are of the up most importance. Experience has taught us that you will walk miles on a daily basis so the correct footwear is absolutely essential, it will be very hot and humid so shorts, T-shirts, vest tops and summer dresses are essential too!
Last but not least, suncream, bug spray, after bite cream and a hat complete the list of the things you definitely need to pack.
We had a fantastic time cruising with Amawaterways and hope you do too.
