Marella Discovery – Why You Need to Book a Cruise on This Ship!
This post is sponsored by Marella Cruises
Our next cruise will be our 70th, and of these 70 cruises, 9 have been with Marella Cruises and 3 have been on Marella Discovery.
In this post, we’ll show you why booking a cruise on Marella Discovery is a great choice and share our personal insights into why we keep returning to this fabulous ship.
Marella Discovery is one of the five ships in the Marella fleet, offering 11 decks and space for up to 1,830 passengers. With its spacious layout and relaxed atmosphere, it’s a great choice for those looking for a cruise that feels comfortable without being overwhelming.
What’s Onboard?
With nine restaurants, seven bars and two swimming pools, there’s plenty to enjoy onboard. Whether you’re travelling as a family, enjoying a romantic getaway or escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life, there’s something for everyone.
Let’s start with our favourite place on the ship: the Atrium. Spanning five decks, it’s the heart of the ship and a great place to sit and watch the world go by. There’s entertainment every day, including live music from solo pianists, duos and bands. It’s also the venue for professional dance classes, line dancing and special events, such as Meet the Captain and his Crew. The magnificent flag parade is another highlight and a real sight to behold.
Entertainment isn’t restricted to the Atrium. Venues such as the Squid & Anchor and Live Room host game shows, quizzes and live music during the day and into the evening. If you fancy a late-night cocktail and some disco music, Bar Eleven is the place to be, keeping you on the dance floor until 2 am!
If you love the West End, you’ll love the Broadway Show Lounge. As well as guest acts, the incredibly talented Marella show cast performs a variety of top-notch shows. Unlike on many cruise lines, the Broadway Show Lounge has 12 unique shows, so even if you’re on a two-week cruise, you’re unlikely to see the same show twice.
Marella Discovery is currently the only ship in the fleet to boast an escape room. Siren’s Spell is a pirate-themed escape game that pits you against Captain Turley. Your quest is to solve puzzles, play games and crack the code to collect the magical “Pearl of the Titan”. You have just 60 minutes to complete the challenge. We’re pleased to say that, with a little help from our friends, we managed it with 15 minutes to spare!
Marella Discovery Is Family-Friendly
Marella Discovery is a fantastic choice for families, with plenty of facilities and activities to keep everyone entertained.
There are Family Suites and Family Junior Suites available. Watch our video here, where we show you around these types of cabins. There’s also a climbing wall and a mini-golf course for those looking for an outdoor activity. Families can enjoy the swimming pools, too, as well as a dedicated splash pool area for younger children.
The Mini M Club is a dedicated space for babies and toddlers to relax and play, whilst the M Club is a free kids’ club for children aged 3–11, where they can enjoy arts and crafts and movie nights. Teenagers can hang out at the Hideout and there is a Gamer Zone which is a fun interactive space with games consoles for both adults and children.
When the sun goes down, the whole family can enjoy Movies by Moonlight, complete with a hot chocolate station and complimentary popcorn, making for a memorable evening under the stars.
Excellent Itineraries
One of the best things about cruising on Marella Discovery is the opportunity to explore some beautiful and fascinating destinations. Depending on your chosen itinerary, you could find yourself strolling through the vibrant streets of Naples in Italy, or enjoying the colourful Caribbean charm of Philipsburg in St Maarten, each port offers something unique to discover.
In Philipsburg, you can enjoy duty-free shopping, explore charming boutiques and bistros or visit Fort Louis, a historic fort dating back more than 230 years.
Naples is a must-visit for food lovers. It’s famous for its authentic Neapolitan pizza and its proximity to Mount Vesuvius, one of Europe’s most famous active volcanoes.
Whether you’re looking to soak up some autumn sunshine, explore the vibrant Caribbean or discover the rich history and culture of the Mediterranean, there’s something for everyone.
With such a diverse selection of ports and itineraries, a Marella Discovery cruise gives you the chance to experience multiple incredible destinations in one unforgettable holiday.
All-Inclusive Cruises as Standard
One of the biggest benefits of choosing a Marella cruise is that an all-inclusive package comes as standard.
Your holiday package includes flights, and overseas transfers, as well as a wide selection of onboard meals, drinks and snacks.
Tips and service charges are also already included in your fare. This means you can relax and enjoy your holiday without worrying about many of the additional costs associated with cruising.
Included in your fare is 47°, the stylish main dining room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, all accompanied by stunning sea views. Gallery 47° is the Italian-inspired restaurant situated above the main dining room. With two different menus, it’s definitely worth visiting twice.
Piccadilly’s serves British-inspired dishes with a twist, including roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and traditional fish and chips. The Glass House offers breakfast and lunch before transforming into a tapas bar in the evening. It’s also the place to head for late-night snacks.
Speaking of snacks, the Snack Shack serves burgers, hot dogs, fish and chips, and chicken wings. There are healthier options, too, including sandwiches, salads and fruit cups.
Last but not least is Islands, a buffet style restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. There’s also a tea and coffee station available during buffet opening hours. The full English breakfast at Islands is amazing!
If you fancy treating yourself to something a little different, there are also three speciality restaurants available for an additional charge: Surf & Turf Steakhouse, the Sushi Bar and Kora La, which serves delicious Pan-Asian cuisine. We’ve eaten at both Kora La and Surf & Turf Steakhouse and can confirm that they’re both fabulous!
The Crew on Marella Discovery
Another area where we think Marella Discovery excels is its service. We genuinely believe the crew are among the happiest at sea! We’ve cruised extensively, and nothing comes close. From the Captain to the maintenance crew, the cabin stewards and everyone in between, it’s always service with a smile. Marella really knows how to run a happy ship!
Sadly, the more we cruise, the more we notice that service levels on other cruise lines are declining. But rest assured, this is absolutely not the case on Marella Discovery.
Ready to Set Sail on Marella Discovery?
With its fantastic choice of family-friendly facilities, exciting itineraries, beautiful destinations and all-inclusive offering, Marella Discovery has everything you need for a memorable cruise holiday.
Whatever your reason for cruising, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, both onboard and ashore. You can discover a host of incredible destinations while enjoying all the comforts and entertainment the ship has to offer along the way.
And with so much included in the price of your cruise, you can spend less time worrying about the details and more time enjoying your holiday!
