Tintern is a beautiful village in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is actually a place we know well as it is close to where we both grew up.

Situated on the banks of the river wye and literally next to Tintern Abbey it is in a fabulous location. It is very easy to find on the A466 Wye Valley road from Chepstow to Hereford, you really can’t miss it, just turn straight into the road for the Tintern Abbey Car Park.

Where do Motorhomes park for an overnight stay at the Anchor Inn Tintern?

Motorhomes park in the overflow carpark which is accessed through the carpark directly in front of the pub. You do need to purchase a parking ticket for £3 but if you present this at the pub when you buy a drink or food then you get your £3 back! We enjoyed an excellent meal here with friends and can definitely recommend the traditional welsh Cawl.

When we stayed in January on a Monday we were travelling with friends who had their own motorhome too and we were the only Motorhomes there. However, Tintern is very popular at weekends and in the summer months so if we returned during these times we would definitely get here early.

Places to visit in Tintern

Tintern is not huge and is lovely place to explore and there is lots to see. Right next to the pub is Tintern Abbey and Abbey Mill and the Old Station are only a short walk away. Opposite you will also find the Wild Hare Hotel (formerly The George) which has an excellent cafe where we enjoyed coffee and cakes.

Also in Tintern you will find the Rose and Crown, the Wye Valley Hotel (do note not currently open on Monday’s) and the Wye Valley Greenway which opens in April 2022.

Check out Tintern Village website here for more information on what to do during your stay.
