Plusterwine Farm Campsite Review, Woolaston, Gloucestershire

Plusterwine Farm Camsite is a small family run campsite in Woolaston, 25 miles from gloucester and 6 miles from Chepstow on the main A48 Road. This was our second time staying at this campsite, and know it won’t be our last.

Plusterwine Farm is easy to find, just turn off the A48 opposite the Woolaston Inn and you will find this campsite. Keep your eye out for a lamppost with the alloy wheel attached to the top and turn immediately left. Keep driving past the farmhouse and you will see the entrance on the right. There are 6 hard standing pitches with hookup and a large grass area for tents some of which also have hookup. Our pitch cost £20 per night.

The site is attached to a fully working farm so during the day there is some farm machinery being operated but we didn’t find this to be at all intrusive, and you can certainly smell the country air. Chickens wander the other side of the fence and one of our favourite things on the farm were the two now retired cows Topsy and Cuddles who were are always pleased to greet visitors and loved being made a fuss of.

There is a toilet and shower block on site but it was closed due to COVID on our visit. There is water at intervals around the site and a elson point for your toilet waste.

If you’re looking for clubhouses, children’s play areas and WiFi then you will be disappointed, but if its unspoilt views across the river Severn or walks around open fields all the way down to the river bank you have made a great choice.

The views across the river are lovely and you can see both the old and new severn bridges from the comfort of your deck chair.

The site is run by a great couple Paul and Christine and if you or your children have ever wondered how a farm actually runs Christine will happily arrange a tour for you.

If your looking to visit things within walking distance there are a couple of things of note. Go back to the main road and turn right and after a couple of hundred metres take the first left this takes you into Netherend, there is a lovely little village pub, the Netherend Inn and a shop. If you walking on the main road towards Alvington you will find the Swan House Tea Room, and in Alvington itself you will find the Blacksmith Arms and The Globe, which has a great reputation for it’s food.

One of the reasons we chose this campsite again, was because of the Nepalese restaurant at the Woolaston Inn, which is found at the end of the lane. We had heard that the food was superb so we booked a table for the Saturday night. Well we were not disappointed, the food was superb and service the was top drawer, it was also excellent value for money too.

If you have transport then Chepstow and the border of Wales is just over 7 miles away, which has its own castle plus a good selection of bars and restaurants.

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush then the national diving and activity centre is only a 5 minute drive, featuring giant slides, zip wires and bungee jumping, and as the name suggests scuba diving.

So if you’re looking for a small friendly campsite in a beautiful rural location, with pollution free starry nights then Plusterwine Farm Campsite really is a great choice.
