Magic of Spain – Marella Cruises

This post is sponsored by Marella Cruises

Spain has been a holiday destination staple for the British public for the past 50 years, making the short journey over the channel to enjoy the sunshine and picturesque beaches. Holiday makers however often struggle deciding on a single destination; half board, or bed and breakfast, adults only, or a family trip. Visiting the hustle and bustle of the busier parts of the country, or the serenity of the quieter places.

With the Magic of Spain cruise with Marella cruises, all of the above questions are answered. Multiple ports across Spain and its islands to explore, a variety of food options to try and activities for the whole family.

In the below article, we will take you through some of the destinations you will explore with a Magic of Spain cruise and some of what you might find on your journey.

Locations on the Magic of Spain Cruise

For us, the highlight of the Magic of Spain cruise is the ports Marella have chosen. A fantastic mix of bustling cities, with endless bars and shops, and also some picturesque lesser visited spots. Here is some information on each destination you will visit:

Palma Marella Voyager Magic of Spain cruise

Palma, Majorca

This port truly has something for everyone. Want to wander and take in the historical architecture, you have the Santa Maria Cathedral, Bellver Castle and Almudaina. All representing a different historical part of the port city.

If something more relaxed is the order of business, then the city boasts an array of bars and Tapas restaurants. You can sit outside with a glass of sangria and watch the world go by.

Gibraltar

Gibraltar, whilst small in stature, only 2.5 square miles and with a small population, the place is more than meets the eye. Steeped in history and with castle ruins dating back to the 1800s, there is plenty to see and do.

Expect to see a lot of military history, with one of the fantastic excursions exploring the World war 2 tunnels. For something a little lighter, visit the “Barbary Apes” a breed of cheeky monkeys that have made the coast of the “rock” their own. Please note when we say ‘cheeky’, we mean they may run off with your rucksack, walking stick and anything else that isn’t fixed to the ground. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Gibraltar is also great for duty free shopping and if you are thirsty after all that shopping there are plenty of pubs to visit on your way back to the ship!

Cadiz (for Seville), Spain

A city as old as Spain itself, dating back as far as 400bc. This small slice of land surrounded by water, truly encapsulates Spain in a small package. History, architecture, sea, boutique shopping, fantastic bars and restaurants.

Get lost wandering through the alley ways, hopping from shop to shop, taking in the historical buildings.

This port will also give you the opportunity to see the city of Seville. This is the fourth biggest city in Spain.

Malaga, Spain

Set in the ever-popular Costa del – sol there is much to see and do here. This would be a perfect opportunity to take advantage of one of the three shore excursions.

The Malaga bike tour is an opportunity to have a guided tour into places buses and cars can’t reach.

The second shore excursion you can take on the Magic of Spain cruise is to Marbella & Puerto Banus. Here you will have ample time to walk along the water front, taking in the views and spotting the yachts in the harbour. You will also take a guided tour to the Naranjos Square and the breathtaking Church of San Jacobo. Be sure to take your camera on this one!

Almeria, Spain

This truly is the tale of two cities, with a tree lined avenue bisecting the city. We would recommend visiting both halves, as both sides offer a different experience. The new town has a vast number of shops, bars and art galleries to visit. Everything to scratch that retail therapy itch.

The old town offers medieval architecture and an opportunity for a more relaxed laid-back atmosphere.

A little further afield, but still within day trip distance, are several places of unapparelled beauty, the Alhambra Palace is the oldest and best-preserved Arabic palace in the world. This is located in the foot hills of Sierra Nevada.

If natural beauty is more your thing, Cabo de Gata Natural Park would make a fantastic trip. With volcanic mountains, beautiful landscapes and sand dunes. You can tour this majestic location walking, or take a guided tour on a sail boat, kayak or even snorkel.

Alicante, Spain

This is your final port day on your trip around Spain, and they have saved one of the best for last. This historic Mediterranean port offers a buzzing assortment of tapas bars, cafes, and restaurants, and offer the back drop to the stunning beach fronts.

The craziness that is Benidorm is only a 45-minute drive away, offering pubs and bars with a little taste of back home. An often-forgotten old town is also well worth visiting.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a Marella Magic of Spain cruise offers an unparalleled way to experience the rich culture, history, and beauty of Spain and its islands. Whether you’re wandering through the historic streets of Palma, exploring the military tunnels in Gibraltar, or soaking in the sun on the beaches of Alicante, this cruise ensures that every traveller finds something to enjoy.
