TUI’s introduction of Nile river cruises on Al Horeya presents an exciting opportunity to explore one of the world’s most iconic waterways. In this post we detail exactly why a TUI River Cruise on the Nile should be on your travel to do list.

In this post we tell you everything you need to know about the Itinerary, the ship, choice of cabins, dining options and what you get for your money when booking a TUI Al Horeya river cruise on the Nile.

The Unique Itinerary

The Legends of the Nile cruise on TUI Al Horeya starts in Luxor, found on the east bank of the Nile in southern Egypt. It includes the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, once the capital of Egypt, it is believed to have been inhabited since 3200 BC. Widely regarded as the world’s largest open-air museum, it is the home of the Theban Necropolis which houses the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.

Next up is Edfu, this Egyptian settlement dates back to at least 3000 BC and is situated on the west bank of the Nile. It is approximately 100 miles from the Aswan Dam and as you would expect is steeped in history. Sites of interest include the Temple of the hawk god Horus, built between 237 and 57 BC, it is 140 metres long and covers an area of 7000 square metres. It is widely regarded as one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in the world.

Kom Ombo is your next port of call, located on the east bank of the Nile. It has archaeological sites that date back to the Paleolithic period. It is most famous for the Temple of Kom Ombo, an unusual double temple that dates back to 180 BC, dedicated to Sobek the crocodile headed god and the falcon headed god Horus. Originally known as Nubt which means city of gold, its position on the Nile gave it major power over trade routes.

The final port of call on TUI Al Horeya before returning to Luxor in Aswan. Found on the east bank of the Nile this busy market city is just north of the Aswan Dam, with construction starting in 1960 and taking 10 years to complete it was at the time the tallest dam in the world. As with all ports of call on this Legends of the Nile river cruise it is steeped in history with no fewer than five major monuments within this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
